BONES

10ea - Beef knee cap

10pk - 3” Hollow Beef
Shin Bone

10pk - 6” Hollow Beef
Shin Bone

As an alternative to a purchased
enrichment toy, like a kong, hollow
shin bones make for an excellent
stuffables. You can stuff with wet
dogfood, soaked kibble, vegetables,
etc. You can use your imagination.
the combinations are endless.

CCBA does not recommend any cooked bones, whether they are smoked or heat dried. Bones can become brittle and create shards, which can cause obstructions or puncture internal organs.

CCBA does recommend RAW meaty bones. However, use extreme caution and know your dogs chewing capacity. If your dog is a hard chewer, you may want to opt for less dense or hard chews as your dog may break teeth on things like hard marrow bones, unless they are full of meat, and taken away from the dog once the meat and marrow has been consumed.

CCBA recommends RAW meaty bones like:

  • Chicken, duck or turkey necks or frames

  • Chicken, duck or turkey heads, feet or wings

  • Beef, lamb, goat rib or shin bones

One of CCBA’s favorite chew, is Beef Knee bones aka knuckles.
These have no bones in them as it is made up of meat and cartilage. These are a long lasting chew.

DIY Chews

FROZEN CARROTS - Par cook whole carrots skin and all in beef, pork, chicken or turkey stock, and then freeze them.

You can also do this with parsnips, yucca, turnip/rutabega, any of the hard root vegetables. Sweet potatoes or squashes may get mushy.

DEHYDRATED SWEET POTATO - Sprinkle with low sodium boulion (no onion) or wet down, crush treats and sprinkle on before dehydrating to make a meat flavored coating

You can also do this with softer veggies like winter squashes, pumpkin

STUFFED FROZEN PEPPERS - Peppers can be used as an enrichment treat, or a way to serve a meal. The filling options
are endless. They can be served raw or frozen. If cooked they will become mushy.

Here are a few stuffing options.

  • Soaked kibble in stock - Mix in cooked veggies, fruit, treats
